The Division of Genetics operates a full service laboratory for clinical genetic counseling and testing on the main UCSD campus. Staffed by highly trained licensed professionals and laboratory personnel, the Cytogenetic Laboratory and the Molecular Genetics Laboratory utilize the latest advances in diagnostic assay technology to provide physicians with an extensive menu of cytogenetic, FISH, and molecular tests. The laboratories work closely with the Division's board certified medical geneticists and genetic counselors to ensure timely interpretation of laboratory results for health care professionals and their patients.

The Biomedical Genomics laboratory (BIOGEM) is a genomics facility located in the Department of Medicine at UCSD. (BIOGEM) was established in 2000 to provide spotted cDNA microarray technology to the UCSD research community. Since then the scope has been expanded to include a variety of related services and resources, including several commercial microarray platforms and second (next-gen) generation sequencing technology. Currently BIOGEM provides RNA sample analysis and quantification services. Additionally BIOGEM processes commercial array platforms including Illumina and Agilent. Presently BIOGEM has 3 Illumina 1G Analyzer instruments and supports a variety of sequencing assays including DNA-sequencing, digital gene expression, small RNA sequencing, chIP-sequencing and bisulfite sequencing.

The Biochemical Genetics Laboratory at the University of California San Diego has been in operation since the establishment of the UCSD Medical School in 1969. As such, we are one of the oldest practicing labs in the field of Metabolomics. We offer CLIA-certified, quantitative analysis for over 150 targeted metabolites, in addition to many common metabolic tests, and several tests not generally available in other laboratories, which have been developed in the conduct of research or the care of our patients with inborn errors of metabolism.

Cytoscape is the industry standard software environment for visualizing, analyzing, and modeling genetic networks. It is also designed to integrate these networks with annoations, gene expression profiles and other state data. Althought Cytoscape was originally designed for biological research, now it is a general platform for complex network analysis and visualization.
